The Annoyance of School Life

I've been a student at school for over 11 years now and I'm finally leaving compulsory education. I'm glad to see the back of it to be honest. I will miss my friends but I know for certain I won't be missing those horrible plastic chairs. I swear they were designed to torture people back in medieval times. They are the most uncomfortable and ugly things that I've ever had to sit on. The story is I had an ultra modern school built on my school field. There was a big hype about how much money was being spent on it. £26million is huge amount but you have to know what to spend it on. Sadly, the school went for looks over comfort and we were stuck with disgusting blue things. They don't even deserve a name they were that nasty. They attempted to use ergonomics in it production. It looked like it had gone terribly wrong and it seemed that the designer of this chair wanted everyone to walk around like chickens, with your back end sticking out and all. I thought we were going to have some excellent office chairs with the comfy cushions and the leaning back rest, but no. They thought it would be so much better if we had some groovy looking seating that cause back problems in the near future. The funny thing was that the choice of chair was left down to a group of year 8 people and they only tested it a few minutes. The thing that really annoys me is that the teachers got the courtesy to have a comforting office chair. I envied them, sitting there swivelling away in front of me and rocking gracefully as I sat shuffling about readjusting every few minutes. But in saying this they had their own problems. It wasn't just us who had an irritating thing they had to deal with. The school decided to buy some office furniture, but what they used it for was highly impractical. They were a high cabinet sort of thing which was intended to house the computer screen and keyboard. You had to be six foot tall whilst sitting down to be able use it the way it was intended and this really did affect the rate of our learning. I found that because they had no room to move there mouse, it took twice as long to open a presentation or work task. We passed over to the school in my last year of education. I was in middle of my GCSE's which was hard enough to cope with anyway, let alone having the stress of losing some of my coursework due to the technicians being to bone idol to send the desperately needed coursework over. But to find that day in, day out I had to sit on these chairs made me want run around screaming. I really loved my old school and to see it knocked down was really disappointing feeling, but to know that you have another uncomfortable day ahead just added to the stress and annoyance I had to put up with. It's not just about the chairs and cabinets. Take the reception are, no thought at all has been put into the practicality and feel of this area. It reminds me of a space ship airlock that you seem to see in the movies. I always expect to get my face sucked off. The reception counter is literally a hole in the wall and inside you find a couple of floating heads. The funny thing is that every time the receptionist wants to talk to a visitor they have to lean over their over sized desk just to say hello. Nothing has been thought through in my school. It's all about how wonderful and fantastic the looks, not about how practical it is. I always say looks are everything but there's a thing called common sense and that obviously something the designer does not have. This, I think, shows how important ergonomics is in office furniture. If something isn't comfortable or practical it can have a large affect on the work rate. Ergonomics is becoming really popular in the production of many items. Even beer glasses are starting to get into it. Take, for example, the new carling glass. Its ridges are curved so it fits perfectly into your hand. If we had some comfortable ergonomic office chairs and office furniture in all lessons there would have been less restless children and probably a lot less stress. I was truly expecting to have the joy of sitting a nice comfy chair. It would have made a huge difference to the experience of my new school.
